Approach

Design, build, then look after it

One firm from the first site visit to the tenth spring. Here is how each part works, what it costs and when it happens.

Step one

Site visit

90 minutes · $250, credited to design

A landscape architect walks the property with you. We look at grade, drainage, sun, soil and the views from inside the house, and we ask how you want to use the yard.

You leave with a clear sense of what's possible and a written design proposal within a week.

Step two

Design

4 to 8 weeks · Flat fee in your proposal

We survey the site, then draw a master plan you can build all at once or in phases. Most design work happens between October and February, so construction can start when the ground thaws.

  • A scaled master plan and planting plan
  • Materials, with samples you can hold
  • A construction estimate, phased if you want it to be

The design is yours. If you build it with someone else, that's fine.

Step three

Build

April to November

Our own crews build every project. A project manager is on site daily, and the landscape architect who drew the plan sets out the planting in person.

Most full projects run from $60,000 to $400,000, depending on how much stone, grading and water is involved. Your estimate is itemized before you sign anything.

Step four

Garden care

March to December · Monthly plans

Care is done by a dedicated crew that knows the plan: pruning on the right schedule, feeding, seasonal planting and a fall cleanup that leaves structure standing for winter.

We care for gardens we didn't build, too. The first visit is an assessment, and we'll tell you honestly what needs replacing.

Winter

November to February

Site visits and design. The best time to start a spring project.

Spring

March to May

Construction starts. Cleanups, pruning and the first planting.

Summer

June to August

Building continues. Care visits every two weeks.

Fall

September to October

The best planting season. Bulbs go in and winter prep begins.

Get in touch
